  • Western footpath (City-side) closes to pedestrians on Thursday 1 September from 8pm until 10.00pm Saturday 2 September.
  • Eastern footpath (Dockside side) closes to pedestrians from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Saturday 2 September.
  • No pedestrian access on the Story Bridge from 6:30pm until 8:00pm on Saturday 2 September.

Captain Cook Bridge – Riverside Expressway

  • The inbound lanes (North bound) of the Captain Cook Bridge may close between 7:00pm to 7:30pm on Saturday 2 September via a controlled vehicle movement, visit the Brisbane Festival website in late August for up-to-date information of this closure.
  • The outbound lanes (South bound) always remain open but operates at a reduced speed with police patrols monitoring traffic flow and responding to any incidents.

Event precinct

The event precinct is clearly identifiable by signage and fencing. The event precinct will run from the southern end of Eileen Peters Park through to Elkhorn Avenue in the north.

Road and traffic changes

There will be changes until Friday 25 August. The Esplanade is closed in both directions from the Hanlan St roundabout through to the Peppers Soul roundabout. Clearly signed diversions will be in place. Access to apartments in this area will remain open at all times.

The Southbound lane of the Esplanade will also be closed from Hanlan St to Clifford St. Local access to apartments in this area will be maintained at all times.

On the event days of Friday 18 August to Sunday 20 August, the Esplanade will be closed in both directions from the Soul roundabout through to Clifford Street.

There is local access only from View Avenue –  Peppers Soul roundabout

To allow for safe pedestrian egress, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) will restrict vehicle movement approximately 2:30pm – 3:30pm in the following streets:

  • Laycock Ave
  • Trickett St
  • Hanlan St
  • Cavill Ave
  • Elkhorn Ave (between Orchid Ave and the Esplanade)
  • Surfers Paradise Blvd (southbound between Elkhorn Ave and Clifford Avenue)
  • Beach Road

Pedestrian and beach access

Pedestrian thoroughfare will be maintained along the Esplanade until 25 August with clear signage in place to identify any changes.

The pedestrian path will be detoured to the closed road at times to ensure a designated pedestrian and bike pathway.

The access to Surfers Paradise beach during the event construction phase will be maintained and clearly signed.

Pedestrian thoroughfare will be maintained along the outside of the event precinct via the closed road.

On event days, beach access within the event precinct will be restricted to those with tickets. The beach will be accessible via Trickett Street in the south and Elkhorn Avenue to the north.

Access to water

Access to water will be prohibited at these times:

Thursday – Sunday 17-20 August from 10am – 4pm

In general, the details are:

  • South – From 1st Avenue Broadbeach
  • North – Narrowneck (lining up with the Macintosh Island Bridge)
  • East – Approximately 1,100m from the shoreline

Swimming in waist level water is allowed along the shoreline.

Boats can anchor outside the ocean exclusion zone and view the show.

Buoys will mark the restricted area.

Maritime Services Queensland has issued notices to mariners.
